The readings of this Sunday focus our attention on the cost of discipleship. It is natural for all human beings to avoid suffering as far as possible. In the first reading, it is no surprise that the Prophet Jeremiah should have been reluctant to let himself be mocked and insulted as part of doing God’s will.
